(5/19/2011)- On the night of May 18th E-Structors, Inc. was presented the James W. Rouse Diversity Award, from the Chesapeake Human Relations Association (CHRA) at their monthly meeting in Hunt Valley.
The Rouse Diversity award was presented to two different organizations in two separate company size categories for their commitment towards promoting a diverse and healthy work environment. E-Structors received the honor for businesses with fewer than 500 employees.
E-Structors was selected by the panel for its commitment towards the inclusion of individuals with disabilities into their workforce, providing employment opportunities to people who are or where once homeless, and for taking initiatives to better the lives of the individuals that are employed there.
In 2007 the program began with a just a single disabled employee. Four years later 15% of E-Structors workforce has a disability, but are successfully integrated and working a full or part time job inside of the facility.
Once the disabilities program was fully operational E-Structors took another socially responsible step by providing jobs to homeless individuals. Through their partnership with the organizations Grassroots and Our Daily Bread, E-Structors has been able to provide employment opportunities and job training for these individuals.
E-Structors was also commended for offering programs that would help individuals in their organization gain financial independence and stability. Since the implementation of the once monthly “Lunch and Learn” sessions, many employees have reported that they have begun taking proactive steps towards bettering their financial positions.
CHRA also acknowledged E-Structors for their commitment to training and promotion of individuals from within an organization. This provides employees with the opportunity to learn valuable skills, improve their teaching and leadership abilities, and to gain valuable knowledge that can be used to advance their careers here or elsewhere.
E-Structors CEO Julie Keough remarked that this award is not the end result of a company’s effort, but rather a reminder that there is always more that an organization can do to reinvest in its workforce.
